Get up and dance in His love
Thursday, January 03, 2008 - Hunger Camp
Happy 2008! Wow, another year has flew by, it’s gonna be CNY soon!

Work beckons, the 2 week company holiday over, last month of internship left. When I stepped into office again on Wednesday (which was yesterday), I couldn’t adjust back to office hours. I felt like sleeping so I slacked a lot yesterday which is what most of my colleagues did also. Come 5pm, everyone, yes everyone, was out of the office, itching to go home.

Hunger Camp was held from the 26th to 29th Dec at Prince George’s Park, very cool because each of us get our own room and the environment there is beautiful just that my only complaint is that the lift lobby is super difficult to find! Other than that the stay there was great.

More importantly, I took home precious gems from the camp which impacted me greatly.

1) John 21:15-17

15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?" "Yes, Lord," he said, "you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my lambs."
16 Again Jesus said, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me?" He answered, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Take care of my sheep."
17 The third time he said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you."

I learnt that I focused too much on the ‘Feed my sheep’ portion that I overlooked ‘Do you love me more than these?’

Do I love Him more than my life? If I do, then I can feed His sheep. One comes before the other, that tall order is now a constant reminder to me.

2) The will of God

Predestination vs Free will
How many debates have been created because of this issue. But, I don’t think God wants for us to argue over this. At the end of the day, who wins the debate doesn’t matter, but the one who loves God and follows His commandments will be saved.

Our God is One who is not bound by time or space. For humans to put Him in a box and start wanting to understand how His mind works is totally impossible. He is the one who created us who created time and He is bigger than al these, so how can we try to define how the will of God works?

From the workshop I learnt that I should do things which point towards the eternal, not the temporal. If I look upon eternity as my end, my path will naturally be one will is God glorifying. So I don’t exhaust myself out over thinking which path is the best for me, but which path can bring delight to Him and that everything will work out, I don’t have to worry.

3) The reflections from my camp group

One thing out of the many things which were good about this camp was that there was a lot of time for refelction. On the last night, my group spent around 5 hours till 4 am just sharing with each other about our lives and problems that we had. The honest sharing which we had was so important to me as it revealed the deepest issues which dwelt in us and releasing it through this session was the lifting of burdens for many of us. Truly, a burden halved is a burden shared.

I learnt to look at God’s word through many different angles through our sharing because we all were impacted in different areas and by sharing, we get to learn more than if we keep what we learnt to ourselves only. I think that’s the true essence of fellowship, to learn and grow more in Christ while edifying and building one another.

I thank God for blessing me in this camp and I really look forward to the next one! Oh, haha, I’m blogging at work again. Better go do what I need to do now if not I’ll get fired. Like no. Heehee.
